Chapters 11-15

*Chapter 11

"No, no, like this," WooHyuk said impatiently.

"That doesn't work with this beat, WooHyuk," YooRa responded. She demonstrated a complicated sequence of footwork. "Like this. With the arm movements HeeJun put together...it's perfect."

"No!" WooHyuk insisted. "That's all wrong. It doesn't even go with the rest of the dance!"

The rest of the group was taking a break, but WooHyuk had refused to stop working. He had to finish this. It had been days and days, yet the dance was still not right for the song. He finally understood why HeeJun had been so frustrated a couple of days ago. This was really getting to him. And to make things worse, YooRa was messing everything up. In his eyes, her interference had made the dance regress, not progress.

YooRa rolled her eyes at WooHyuk. "When are you gonna learn to listen to me?" she asked, exasperated. "Look at it, WooHyuk, instead of just passing judgement based on your prejudices." She started to dance again.

What YooRa said did not help WooHyuk concentrate on her dance. Instead, he became even more angry. He cut her off, killing the music she was dancing to. "YooRa, take a break, why don't you, and let me handle this." he said, gritting his teeth.

"What?" YooRa said. "No! You don't even know what you're doing! I'll finish this, you go with your group and calm down some."

"What are you talking about? I don't know what I'm doing? Take a look at yourself, YooRa! You think you're so good and so talented, and you're not even close! And don't tell me to calm down! I'M ALREADY CALM!!"

"Then why are you yelling?" YooRa innocently asked.

From the back came a couple of snickers. HeeJun, KangTa, and Tony had witnessed the whole thing, and they thought it was hilarious... but they tried hard not to laugh.

Frustrated, WooHyuk threw up his hands. "I don't even know why I'm wasting my time arguing with you! You don't know anything about this business, YooRa. You don't know what's popular, what works, what makes the fans happy. Don't tell me how to do this job, I've been doing it perfectly fine for the past couple of years!"

"Well, I'm from -- "

"And if you tell me one more time that you're from that crap school Juilliard, I'm going hit you."

That shut YooRa up. Disgusted, she turned around and walked away. "Fine," she said over her shoulder. " But don't blame me when you finally realize that the dance you choreographed is all wrong." She walked out of the practice room, unable to believe how many times she and WooHyuk had clashed since they've met. But the worse thing was, she liked fighting with him. He was so attractive when he was angry... why did he have to be so good-looking? She sighed. That made her even more mad.

As soon as she left, HeeJun and the others popped out of their hiding place, laughing hysterically.

"You... you... " HeeJun gasped, unable to talk from laughing too hard.

KangTa translated for him, although he was laughing too. "You and YooRa noona are the funniest ... "

"Hahahahaha!" Tony contributed.

WooHyuk was fuming. He waved all of them off. "It's not funny." he said angrily.

"Actually," HeeJun cracked. "It is!"

WooHyuk walked away from them, leaving the sounds of laughter behind as he thought of how much he disliked -- no no, couldn't stand YooRa.

*Chapter 12

"YooRa!" Tony yelled. As usual, he was the first one to arrive to practice.

YooRa turned around. She smiled. "Hey, cutie." she replied.

Tony beamed. He really was starting to like her better and better. YooRa was really cute and friendly once you got to know her, not to mention her great dancing skills. YooRa was actually helping Tony get some of the dances better, which was something no one else had ever been able to do, not even JiYun. That reminded him. JiYun. When was the last time he had talked to her? He couldn't remember. She had paged him this morning...

YooRa laughed to herself. Tony acted like such a little boy, even though they were the same age. It was obvious that he had some sort of feelings her for. She hadn't been sure at first, she had always thought that him and JiYun had something going on. It didn't seem like it these days... Tony was definitely always flirting with her. Tony wasn't really her type. She preferred more mature, serious guys, but it would be fun to go out with someone... and Tony could certainly be fun.

"YooRa." Tony said.

"Hmm?" she answered sweetly.

"Where's JiYun at? Wasn't she supposed to come to practice today?"

"Try her at home, I don't know, though."

Tony went into the practice room and looked for his bag. As he reached into it to find his cell phone, a hand grabbed his neck.

"Aughhhhh!!" Tony screamed.

HeeJun and KangTa burst out laughing. WooHyuk, the one who had grabbed him, gave him a menacing look.

"Dayam, WooHyuk! You scared the shit out of me!" Tony said.

HeeJun, still giggling, said, "Well, hurry up. We start in five minutes." HeeJun and KangTa left to look for their manager.

WooHyuk still stood over him. "What are you doing?" he asked with suspicion.

"Oh," Tony said guiltily. "I was gonna give JiYun a call..."

"Might be a good idea, considering you haven't talked to her in about a billion years." WooHyuk said sarcastically.

"Hey, what's it to you? I don't have to call her if I don't feel like it."

"No, but I thought you were her best friend."

Tony stared at the ground.

"And for a while, I thought you guys were...well..."

"What?"

"You know, gonna get together or something..."

Tony jerked his head up. "Where did you get that idea?" he asked angrily, his eyes glittering.

WooHyuk shrugged. "Maybe the way you were acting towards her, and the way she was acting around you. Everyone thought so, not just me. What happened Tony? I know you liked her. But now all you do is talk about YooRa. You're completely ignoring JiYun. Do you really like YooRa more than JiYun?"

"Maybe I should be asking you the questions, Woo. How can you be questioning me about YooRa when you're the one acting strange around her? You can't even go past one word without starting a fight with her!"

WooHyuk felt himself heat up. "This isn't about me, Tony. It isn't even about YooRa. It's about you and JiYun, and you should just face the damn truth... you like her! Or you liked her, anyway."

Tony shook his head. "I can't like JiYun. I can't... I can't. I just can't. We're not like that. We're just friends. Best friends. YooRa's different. You can't compare the two of them."

"There's no rule saying that you can't go out with your best friend, you know. Sometimes it really works out."

"No. That would ruin everything. Me and JiYun... we just don't work. I can't like her, and maybe I do like YooRa. Just... WooHyuk, just stay out of it. I'll handle it." Tony put his cell phone back in his bag and left to join HeeJun and KangTa.

WooHyuk just stood there. Who was Tony kidding? WooHyuk could see right through him. Tony was just bringing up YooRa to him so that he could avoid facing up to the truth. WooHyuk blushed as he thought about YooRa...then took his mind off of her. YooRa wasn't involved in this. It was about Tony and JiYun. Tony liked JiYun, but he didn't want to admit it. He wondered how long it would take for Tony to see the truth. He just hoped nobody would get hurt in the process.

*Chapter 13

JaeWon walked into the studio, his eyes swollen from crying all afternoon. He didn't care if he looked like shit. But as he was coming to the studio, he had done a lot of thinking. He was tired of all the worrying and the fighting. He didn't want to do it anymore. He was going to forget about EunJu. She didn't want him, so why should he want her? There were plenty of other girls, especially as their group gained more fame and popularity. Yes, he would forget about her with some other girls. He thought that it would be easy enough.

"Hey, JaeWoni's here!" exclaimed HeeJun.

"Great!" YooRa said briskly. "We can start."

"JaeWon, are you okay?" KangTa asked worriedly, noticing JaeWon's condition.

"I'm fine." he answered tightly. "By the way, what time are we going to be finished today?"

"I'm not sure," YooRa said. "Probably late... but that means that we can get a day off tomorrow."

"Why, JaeWon? You got a date with EunJu?" asked Tony, smiling.

None of the members knew what was going on with JaeWon these days. They noticed his depression, but he wouldn't tell them anything. He wondered if he should tell them now. He shook his head.

"No?" WooHyuk asked, confused. "Why not?"

"I want to go out tonite. Without EunJu. To that restaurant we always go to, the one that's like a club... I can never remember the name..."

"The Diamond." HeeJun supplied. "That's a great idea! Let's all go."

"Are you sure that's a good idea? With your leg and all." WooHyuk said.

"I'm sure it'll be all right," HeeJun said breezily.

Tony looked thoughtful. "YooRa, you wanna come with us?"

YooRa smiled. She'd been waiting for him to say something to her. "Of course!"

WooHyuk grimaced. Why did Tony have to invite her? She would just make him extremely uncomfortable, as usual.

KangTa watched this unsmiling. He remembered the last time they were there, when Tony had been with JiYun...she had looked so happy with him. He thought about inviting JiYun along, too. As he looked at Tony and YooRa, he made his decision.

"Hey, guys, I'll be back in 5 minutes."

"Wait, KangTa --"

He ran all the way to the pay phones so that no one could find him. As he put the coins in, he wondered if JiYun would even agree to come.

"Hello?" The melody of her voice made KangTa lose all coherent thoughts.

"Um...yeah, um... hello?"

"Hello?" JiYun asked again. She thought she heard a male voice. She grew excited. Was it Tony? "Tony?"

KangTa couldn't believe it. She thought he was Tony, of all people. It showed who she was hoping for... "No, it's me, KangTa."

"Oh..." The disappointment was evident.

"What, you don't want to talk to me?" he asked teasingly.

"No, no, no... it's just..."

"Listen. We're all going to The Diamond. Do you want to come with us?"

"Sure!" she said. "Wait, let me write a note to YooRa telling her... no, she's with you guys, isn't she? Can you tell her that I'm going with you guys?"

KangTa bit his lip. "Well... she's sorta going."

JiYun's heart felt heavy. "Tony invited her, didn't he?"

He wondered if he should lie to her. But he never was a good liar, anyway. Better tell the truth. "Yeah, he did."

"Okay. I thought so...Do you want me to come to the studio now?"

"No, we're not gonna be leaving for another couple of hours. Just meet us there around nine, okay?"

"Aiight, then, I guess... hey KangTa?"

"Yeah?"

"Thanx for inviting me along, you know, I haven't seen any of you guys in a long ass time. And Tony...well, we haven't talked for a while, and it'z good to know that at least someone's thinking about me."

"No problem. See you later, then. 'Bye." Once again, KangTa felt anger rise up in him against Tony. She missed him so much... she was hurting so much. "I am thinking about you, JiYun," he said to himself.

*Chapter 14

JiYun arrived at the club exactly at nine. The others were nowhere to be seen. "Where are they?" she impatiently muttered as she glanced at her watch. The minutes seemed to crawl by as she waited, and waited...

KangTa was getting nervous. It was nine thirty already! JiYun would be so mad at him... he sighed. "Aren't we DONE yet?"

Everyone turned to look at him, shocked. KangTa never complained. He was always the one to ask for more time and more practices.

KangTa lowered his eyes. "Sorry,"

"What'z the matter, KT?" HeeJun said. He grinned. "Can't wait to see all da fine ladies?"

"Well..." KangTa tried to think of what he should say. He just didn't think the others would understand about him inviting JiYun. Except maybe WooHyuk. After all, he did know about JiYun. But the others were his best friends. They would understand... wouldn't they? "...I invited JiYun to meet us at The Diamond at nine. She's waiting there already, and I don't want to keep her waiting,"

Immediately, Tony stood up. "Damn, KangTa, are you stupid or something? She's gonna be waiting there forever! You didn't even know what time we were going to finish and you gave her a time anyway? Why didn't you have her come to the studio?"

"How was I supposed to know that we were going to take this long?" KangTa asked feebly, taken aback by Tony's reaction.

"If you were smart enough, you would have just told JiYun to come here! Who knows how long she's gonna have to wait outside!" Tony retorted.

"Hey, you shouldn't even be talking to me about JiYun -- at least I invited her, you know? And who's supposed to be her best friend? You don't deserve her as a friend. You totally treat her like crap." said KangTa angrily.

HeeJun put a hand on KangTa'z shoulder. "Hey man, chill."

YooRa stood, too. "It's okay, you guys. Let's just stop here for today. And get ready quickly so that JiYun doesn't have to wait any longer."

"Yeah, YooRa, you're right. Let's go." Still fuming, Tony turned and went into one of the changing rooms.

KangTa couldn't say anything. How could Tony say that to him? He was getting that closed-off look again. WooHyuk didn't know what to say to him. Finally, he just put his arm around KangTa and lead him to the practice room to get his bag. "Come on, KangTa, JiYun'll be waiting."

JiYun checked her watch again. It was ten. The cold wind whipped around her, and she struggled to keep warm outside of the brightly lit restaurant. She had a sinking feeling that they weren't going to show. She couldn't help it -- her eyes filled with tears. She couldn't believe this was happening. It was as if she had no more friends. KangTa, she thought, how could you do this to me? Tony was gone, KangTa was gone, YooRa was gone... "There's no point to this," she whispered to herself. Pulling her coat tight around her, she left and headed towards her car.

*Chapter 15

By the time the group got to the restaurant, it was ten thirty. KangTa already knew that she left. He felt so bad, he didn't know what the hell he could do. Tony still wasn't talking to him. Instead, he and YooRa were flirting like crazy. HeeJun was explaining all his girl secrets to JaeWon, and WooHyuk was just staring at the sky, trying not to notice YooRa's lilting voice.

"She's not there," KangTa said, his voice dead.

"Whose fault is that?" Tony said, smirking.

"Hey, Tony, shut the hell up." HeeJun said, annoyed. "Dammit, both of you guys. Stop fighting, ok? Try thinking about JiYun, not yourselves. Have some consideration. One of ya'll gotta go call her, or something."

"I'll call her," KangTa said quickly.

They all went inside. JaeWon and HeeJun immediately went out on the dance floor, and they were instantly surrounded by all these girls.

Tony and YooRa went out on the dance floor, too. WooHyuk watched them. Damn, he thought. What the hell's wrong with Tony? WooHyuk didn't know what bothered him more, the fact that Tony didn't seem to care about JiYun at all or that he had eyes only for YooRa.

Ring, ring.

No one was picking up the phone at JiYun's. "Shit," KangTa muttered. What now?

He hurridly went to go find Tony. Maybe he would know of a place JiYun always went to. He and YooRa were dancing. Just like he had with JiYun...

"Hey, Tony,"

"Yeah?"

KangTa, uncomfortable, said, "Um, JiYun's not home."

"I figured."

"Huh?"

"She's probably at this place across the street from her house. It's sort of a little park, with a fountain." A guilty shadow played across Tony's face. "We used to go there a lot."

"Thanx, Tony, you don't know how much." KangTa ran out of the club, nearly knocking down HeeJun in the process.

"Wait, KangTa!!" Tony yelled out. He ran his fingers through his hair. "Damn, maybe I should've talked to JiYun."

"Forget about her, Tony," YooRa said. She smiled up at him, wrapping her arms around his neck. Tony couldn't help but smile back.

"Hey, KangTa!" WooHyuk called.

"Oh! Hyung! I'm glad you caught me. Let me borrow your car."

"What? Where are you going?"

"I'm going to see JiYun."

"Why?"

"Don't worry, hyung, I'll drop it off tonite...since I left my car at your place, anyway."

"What are you going to, KangTa? Ask her out? Do you know what you're doing? I hope so, man, or you're gonna screw everything up, especially for her."

"I know, hyung. Just don't worry about me." He took WooHyuk's keys and sped out the door. WooHyuk couldn't help feeling that something bad was gonna happen.

KangTa got into his car and drove. He had to find JiYun and explain everything to her. Maybe he would even tell her how he really felt about her...
